Venues are supplied with the packs to distribute to their staff.
I think that asking farangs to donate money to make condoms available in bars for their staff is absurd. I can't imagine any farang visiting a bar for sex who doesn't have condoms in his pocket or back in his room.
I also thought the government has been providing free comdoms to the bars for years.
If not, what self-respecting bar would not make condoms available as protection for its employees and customers, expecially with the 300-400 baht off fees these days. Why raise money for AIDS and not take action to prevent it in the first place ???
I'm just wondering if "venues" means places other than bars, in order to promote safe sex between Thais. In that case, it might be a very good idea.

From what I have seen in spots around Sunee Plaza, those who say that they care about these young men might be more concerned about ways to keep underage kids out of the sex business, instead of putting condoms in their pockets.
That may sound harsh, and who am I to question the good intentions of men I don't know personally, but you can't be a sex customer and try to play Father Flanigan or Mother Teresa at the same time, in my opinion, without looking a little suspect.
If there are any celibates among the group, or any of the 10 good men that Abraham couldn't find, my apologies for misjudging the situation.

I am afraid some of the take care group members who are collecting money for a safer Pattaya are not happy with your remarks.
I like the idea of giving rubbers to boys. It educate them to play safe. specially when the condoms have a message which teach them about aids. They should be given away at school as a form of education not as a tool to make money in the bars.
I really like the idea about promoting safe sex and would love to donate 5000 baht next time when I am in Pattaya. Right now I am only a little happy because next time, when I am a customer in a bar I don't have to go to 7 eleven when I off a boy. The take care team takes care about me. Now I am a little confused do I have to say Thank you take care team or do I have to say no thanks.
Sorry for raising this question I agree its not my business but I love the idea of promoting safe sex and would be very happy to help.
Hopefully some of your members of this take care team read this board and are happy to explain the inns and outs about what could become (or is already ?? )a Noble charity. Lets work all together for a safer sex world.

Ups Hedda and sexpat what a strong remarks.
I agree. It seems to me that putting condoms in the hands of young Thai men to prevent the spread of diseases is a winner, regardless of who is doing it, Mother Teresa or the Marquis de Sade.
On the reverse sideof the coin, I can see where Hedda is coming from when she says these are the same kids who may be selling sex to the guys distributing the condoms.
I can just see what some tabloid would make of that connection: Sex Predators Prey on Young Kids with Free Condoms.
For sure, it would be better if some organization free of any sexual innuendo was doing the distribution.
I'm also curious though, whether gogo bars are on the distribution list. Can't the bars buy condoms for peanuts in bulk ?

So hopefully we can go on now to another subject.
I think its a very good service from the bar and I think its a very good education for the boys to play it safe.
I cannot understand why you have to complain about everything in live. Nobody can do any good to you complaining gays about everything. Cheer up and make love no war.

I wonder why nobody of the take care group is replying on this subject ?
Nobody of the take care group is reading this board I guess !?
As I told the take care gays, I am very interested in your take care work and would like to help to take care and help to provide condoms to the Thai youth. I will be at your charity event( october 21 Monty's enchanted hut Jomtien) Plaza) when you are going to collect money again for providing free condoms. Hopefully we can discuss THEN the matter about how and where we shall distribute them.
Lets work together to make Pattaya a safer place to have sex.

Prague if you read the new weekly report from G.P you find the answers to your questions.
Thanks Jerryglitter ( I thought they arested you in Phom Phen for child abuse) why are you using his name ?
This is what the answer of the take care team:
TAKE CARE ! PROJECT OFFERS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ;
INVITES SUPPORT, INQUIRIES ABOUT THE PROJECT
Two weeks ago, the Weekly Report on Thailand carried an article about the efforts and activities of the group operating as TAKE CARE ! PROJECT, and discussion of that information, we believe, was useful in getting many in our community to understand more about the project and its activities. The Project has now provided additional information on its activities, and invites those interested in the activities to write for further information or to attend a meeting of the project members. The message from Take Care! Project is as follows:
"MORE ABOUT TAKE CARE!! SAFE SEX PROJECT
"TAKE CARE!! SAFE SEX PROJECT regularly distributes safe sex “packs” containing condoms, lube and instructions in Thai to gay venues throughout Pattaya. These venues are primarily go-go bars, but also include some beer bars and other venues, as well. The idea is to have condoms and lube available to staff when they accompany customers. This protects the staff member, as well as his client.
"Should all go-go bars obtain their own condoms and lube and provide them to their staff? That would be very nice. However, in the real world, that often doesn’t happen. Should every customer have condoms and lube available every time he has a liaison? Again, in an ideal world, that would always take place. On the other hand, in reality, sometimes a customer and his “date” may find themselves in the embrace of passion without protection. It has been known to happen. What is more, there are still people around who want to “bareback.” When the workers have safe sex packs with them, they are better able to insist on using protection.
"With the rising rate of HIV infection, we recognized a need in our community and wanted to help deal with it. We are a core group of approximately eleven, mostly retired, farangs and Thais living here in Pattaya, who devote our time, effort and money to this cause. We are supportive of other groups that serve employees of gay venues, such as SWING and SISTERS, and they are supportive of us as well.
"If you have any other questions or concerns about what we do, or would like to attend our meetings or make a contribution, you can email us at <takecarepattaya@hotmail.com>. We’ll be happy to reply to serious inquiries."

thanks for your answer to our question. I am not sure if I agree now with you guys. Let me think about it.

Why don't the farangs who are handing out packets of condoms in these bars have a package that says:
STOP CHILD SEX ! DONT HIRE or "OFF" ANYONE LESS THAN 18.

I love to get free condoms everywhere I go. its so easy. I think providing free condoms to the gogo bars is very good. I agree with the poster who is asking for having a package with the text STOP CHILD SEX ! DONT HIRE or "OFF" ANYONE LESS THAN 18. I also would not provide condoms to bars which are known for having to young boys dancing. Those are my two cents of thoughts. However I also think that the younger boys under 18 needs to be protected So I am not sure what is best to do.
Wouldn't excluding bars that employed underage staff from the condom program put the most vulnerable people in more danger?
You can't solve every problem simultaneously. Of course, bars should be discouraged from employing underage staff and customers should refrain from taking them off. But, to deny these bars, who are likely less responsible toward protecting staff anyway, safe sex supplies seems, to me, to be extremely short sighted.

All bars or massage parlors should provide condoms to their staff for free, as part of employment safety and customer service. The idea that it's necessary to have a band of expats organize a charity to accomplish that safety goal is utterly presposterous.
It's such an obvious example of how totally irresponsible the bar owners are, not only to the Thai people who work for them, but the paying customers too. It's exploitation, no different than sweatshops employing 10 years old to sew cheap shoes.
I would be ashamed as a bar owner to accept a charitable donation of something that I should be providing free to my employees as a matter of good business and clear conscience. It's bad enough some of these guys hire underage kids; surely they can make the effort to protect the most vulnerable element of the sex trade from work-related diseases.

like stopping them being exposed to second-hand smoke - what a great idea , lets all only go to bars that have a "no underage, no smoking" policy!

You all know the one I'm talking about.
I'm hereby pledging that I will not step foot in that bar until all the kiddies are gone. Hopefully, they'll replace them with naked men and then we can all have fun again !!!!
