Perfect Bedbugy, you are the quintessential Baht-Stop poster ... the BS Boys should present you with an award.
You can happily join the gaggle of Hedda look-a-likes trying their best to make Thailand into Omaha, or Billings, or Basingstoke.

Cheers ...

Regradless of what sourpuss Smirks has to offer, the fact is that the socio-economic group of Thais that most farangs meet here are no better or worse than what's called the "ghetto blaster" crowd in urban ghettos back home. They're all the same, no matter where you look on the planet.

Since I have never been to any of those three cities, I am hard pressed to understand why one should look "Hedda-Like" in trying to turn Thailand into one of them.

I do agree with the original comment, however, that loud noises are pandemic in Thailand. I have seen them at such disparete places as boxing matches, religious ceremonies and shopping malls. Closer to home, there is a Thai guy who lives down the street, who loves to entertain the entire block with his favorite Issan love songs broadcast from his Isuzu truck ...usually between 3 and 4 AM.

Spend any time in a row house here and you will discover than they have not yet invented the concrete wall that can block your neighbor's TV, especially after midnight. Speaking of concrete walls, there is no such thing here as "business hours" for building anything. The biggest condo builders in Pattaya are notorious for pile driving at all sorts of uncivilized hours and living in any condo usually means having to use ear plugs to block construction noices for at least four months out of every year.

I knew a fellow from the UK who actually had to sell his house and move to a condo when one of his neighbors decided to convert his home into a karaoke bar at a nearby corner. The expat was foolish enought to complain to the police - which got him a broken windshield later that night - nothing more. Funny, the tourist bureau never talks about noise in their brochures.

Come to think of it, although I have never been to any of those three cities mentioned by Smiles, I'd be willing to bet that they all have noise ordinaces which get enforced. It's called civilized urban living and, if that's being "Hedda-like," I'll go for it.
