This article gives new meaning to the words "safe sex" here in Thailand. Remember that unlike HIV, which requires sexual or blood-to-blood contacts, TB can be spread by air and/or casual contact.
"Thailand is now ranked 17th in a World Health Organis-ation list of 22 countries where tuberculosis is widespread, National Health Security Office (NHSO) secretary-general Dr Sa-nguan Nittayara-mphong saidy.
TB in Thailand has been resurgent along with the worsening Aids situation, coupled with inefficient preventive government measures, he said.
The NHSO is running a network of disease control with more than 800 tambon administrative organisation and municipalities countrywide."

My Thai boyfriend developed TB two years ago and it very nearly killed him. I was with him for several trips during the six months he was on a triple drug therapy and I took advice from my doctor about any possible dangers.
He was very relaxed about it as my boyfriend was symptom free by the time I saw him. He said as I was in "robust" health there was little danger of any infection.
Sadly many Thais, particularly those who are HIV+, are not so lucky.
