It's interesting that after insisting for the past two weeks that Thailand did not want or need to have the EU moniter its elections, a member of the Thai Election Commission today said that Thailand's version of election monitors, called PNet has been doing a bad job.
"Election Commission (EC) member Sodsri Satayatham Monday threatened to find a new monitoring group to replace the People's Network for Elections (PNet) on grounds of poor performance. "PNet has not been effective in spite of changing its working format many times," she said.
Sodsri was reacting to a demand for more funds by PNet. The EC allocated it Bt80 million last year and PNet had yet to finish auditing its spending, she said.
Sodsri said the EC might opt for the European Union to observe the elections instead of PNet if differences could be ironed out over the memorandum of understanding."
