"Trying to find an appropriate landing place for the once high-flying assistant army chief Gen Saprang Kalayanamitr has caused the long-awaited army reshuffle list to be delayed another day.
The list, which involves the transfer of about 550 officers in the three armed forces, was supposed to have been out of the hands of army commander-in-chief Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin and in those of Supreme Commander Gen Boonsang Niampradit yesterday. . .
Gen Sonthi said earlier yesterday that he would not forward the reshuffle list yesterday because he did not want the nomination to be leaked owing to it being submitted early. But army sources said he and other army officers were working at his residence last night in another attempt to move Gen Saprang to a position the general would find acceptable."

The folks in power, with their friends in the media, are certainly making a big thing out of who get the top job at the Army, especially General Sonthi, who seems to take keeping this decision secret more seriously than fighting Thaksin's cronies.
Regarding the secrecy, there was an interesting article in the Bangkok post a few days ago which showed the wives of the various army big wigs at some luncheon.
According to the article, all the wives were congratulating General Anupong's wife on his getting the Army top job. So much for secrecy . . . it it's true.

The papers this morning seem to suggest that the wives knew all along that General Anupong was the man.
