"Warning signs will be placed at 80 popular but potentially dangerous locations in Khao Sok national park, Surat Thani governor Winai Buapradit said yesterday. The governor said more warning signs were clearly needed.

The move follows the deaths of six foreign tourists and two Thai guides in a flooded cave within the park's boundaries in Ban Ta Khun district on Saturday.

In addition to extra signs there would be more rescue drills to ensure staff were better prepared to handle any problems, said Mr Winai.

The governor said the number of tourists visiting the province had not decreased in the wake of Saturday's tragedy. The accident led to the National Parks, Wildlife and Conservation Department closing six national parks in Surat Thani, while the tourism authority suspended all nature tours in the parks."
