You may remember several weeks ago that the Thais refused to allow the EU to monitor the upcoming elections because they said that there were established Thai NGO's to do it. The most prominent of these election monitors is PNet, the People's Network for Election. No more.

"PNet announced Thursday that it would boycott the monitoring of the December 23 election.

Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, a Pnet official, said the agency decided to boycott the election monitoring after the Election Commission refused to issue an apology over a remark by EC commissioner Sodsri Sattayatham.

Sodsri said on September 10 that Pnet had failed to submit reports to the EC how it had spent the Bt80 million from the EC to monitor the election. Somchai said Pnet would also file a defamation suit against Sodsri and the EC."
