"General Panlop Pinmanee, adviser to the director of the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc), has joined the Puea Pandin party and says he is ready to stand for election on Dec 23.

Gen Panlop was appointed the party leader's security affairs adviser and was among Puea Pandin's 100 potential election candidates who were introduced to the public at its first annual assembly at Muang Thong Thani yesterday. He said the reason behind his decision to join the party was because its policies and ideals had something in common with his own. . .

Gen Panlop rejected the notion that his membership of the party suggested the possibility that other military veterans would join up with Puea Pandin as well. ''No other former military officers will follow suit. My close friends such as Maj-Gen Manoonkrit Roopkachorn are now with the Democrat party. . .

He was ready to stand in a constituency or on the party list and to resign as adviser to the Isoc chief if there was a conflict. Gen Panlop's tenure at the Isoc expires on Dec 30."
