I used to think it was all just harmless, this urge to dress alike, like some teenage fad, that served to unify a body politic that's seriously divided between rich and poor, rulers and ruled. There is a problem, however, in cultivating this kind of devotion too intensely, that too many people see conformity as an end in itself, like dependent children who never mature into independent adults. Without that level of political maturity, this country may find it difficult to sustain a stable and peaceful democratic society, when the tie that binds is gone.
Change in Thailand is as inevitable as death itself, yet most of its leaders, civilian and millitary, do not seem interested in developing strong democratic institutions that can stand on their own when the single force that unites all Thais right now has passed into history.

How's this for a happy coincidence:
"People rushed to Phufah shop in Bangkok even before it opened on Saturday morning to buy pink shirts featuring the latest collection of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's drawing. It is the first day that the shop, under the Princess's patronage, sell the collection.
Demand for pink shirts has skyrocketed, after His Majesty the King was seen leaving Siriraj Hospital after treated for his illness in a pink shirt and blazer on Wednesday. Pink is also believed to bring good health.
Many enthusiastic shoppers queued up at Siam Discovery Centre, where the shop is located, since 7am. They said they are happy to wait to buy the shirts to show their loyalty to His Majesty.
Demand for the pink shirts is expected to continue for at least one month, when His Majesty celebrates his birthday anniversary on Dec 5."
