There was a little-noticed suggestion made by the Prime Minister's Office Minister, Thirapat Serirangsan, yesterday. Mr Thirapat intimated that the interim government may have to stay on in office for at least 17 months in total, not the 12 months originally promised, "due to the lengthy process of drafting a charter and organising a general election. "
The suggestion sparked some very negative comments from various sources.
Meanwhile, all members of the Electric Rate Commission, all Thaksin appointees, resigned yesterday, as the house cleaning continues.

I notice that the Army issued a statement this afternoon saying it has no plans to stay longer than one year, but " it was impossible to know the future, and circumstances may require an extension past October, 2007, although that is not the aim."
When asked "if the lengthy process of writing a new charter would be enough of a rationale to extend the government's tenure, the prime minister said it is up to how much the people cooperate and participate in the drafting."
Your guess is as good as mine about what this all amounts to. I'm not sure anyone knows, including the junta leaders.
