Contrary to earlier rumors on other boards, I have been told by a source that should know that a firm decision to close Symphony restaurant on Second Road near Pattaya Klang has not been made.

If it was my business, and I wanted to make a living running a restaurant, I'd get out of Symphony's current location on Second Road and move to (1) something close to Boyztown (2) Sunee Plaza or (3) somewhere on Thepraya Road between the current Mata Hari and Jomtien Complex. In my opinion, Symphony's location is chiefly responsible for the lack of customers. There are too many noisy bars and other neighbors in that area and the parking situation is awful.

Yet, when it was Mata Hari, you had to book to guarantee a table, despite the location.

I'm not sure that was true in the last year at the old location. I know that our group stopped going to the old Mata Hari when someone moved into the neighborhood with a karaoke-type bar next door and the boom-boom was loud enough to shake the wine in the glasses.

If you don't think that Symphony is going to close by April 30, try making a reservation there for dinner there in May.

I have eaten in both Symphony and Mata Hari on several occasions, in both MH's old and new location. The menu at Symphony tried to mimic Mata Hari, but the food at Symphony was not as good, starting with the bread course and thru most of the menu. Since the prices were comparable, and the ambiance at the new Mata Hari so much better, there was no way that Symphony could compete in the long run with Mata Hari. I think they made their mistake from the beginning by trying to be just like Mata hari.
