For those who care about such silly things, today (Thursday) was the first real beach day to get washed out by rain in a very long time. We've has some heavy downpours in the last week here. It's 425 PM here, light drizzle, and the sky has been leaden with grey clouds and rumbling thunder for most of the afternoon. You can actually see Koh Larn again through the haze !

Today, late afternoon and yesterday heavy rain in Bangkok. Yesterday the rain was accompanied by heavy winds and many trees, signs and telephone polls came down, three people dead. Ch 3 just loves to show bodies on the news. A huge tree fell on Sathorn soi 1 in front of an Indian Restaurant taking out 4 or 5 parked cars.

I went out just before all this started. There's no warning system like in USA, with those beep, beep, beep, flash weather advisory at the bottom of the TV screen. The BF was watching the soaps all the actors were crying and sobbing as usual and nothing about severe weather on the way.

Welcome to the rainy season.

It's a beautiful blue sky and fluffy cloud Sunday morning in Pattaya, after three straight days of hard afternoon rains at the beach. Actually, I think it's normal for us to get some rains around Songkran time, followed by a hot and dry May, with the beginning of the rainy monsoon with Buddhist Lent in June. September is usually Pattaya's wettest month when the rain peaks.

BTW, the beaches are pretty empty now that the snow birds have all gone home. Many restaurants have tables available now, even on weekends, without reservations.

From the CIA world fact book https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/th...ields/2059.html

Thailand tropical; rainy, warm, cloudy southwest monsoon (mid-May to September); dry, cool northeast monsoon (November to mid-March); southern isthmus always hot and humid
