"The search for a large number of missing cars involved in the car-hire scam has been progressing at a snail's pace. Metropolitan police have so far retrieved only 90 of the 950 missing vehicles.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau released details of its efforts to clamp down on the car racket yesterday to victims waiting for some good news. There wasn't much. So far only one-tenth of the missing cars have been found.
Metropolitan police chief Assawin Kwanmuang told the victims his investigative teams were trying their best to arrest gang members and retrieve all the missing cars as quickly as they could. Another 11 centres to take complaints have also been set up to help people who are victims of the scam. So far 34 suspects have surrendered to police and 14 suspects have been arrested. There have been 637 victims with 950 missing cars. Only 90 vehicles have been retrieved. The remaining 860 are worth a total of 734 million baht.
Three police officers have been implicated in the scam _ Pol Capt Karin Thongmanokul of the Special Branch, Pol Lt-Col Nawin Tongsa-nga of the Economic and Technology-related Crime Suppression Division and Pol Lt-Col Chairat Ratana of Phahon Yothin police station, according to Pol Lt-Gen Assawin.
The suspects are accused of deceiving people by persuading their victims to buy new cars and rent them out through their car rental services, which promised them high returns. However the victims, mostly residents in six suburban districts of Bangkok, did not get the returns promised and lost their cars. Most complaints come from Min Buri district ."

Say no more. They are more likely to find that missing and presumed murdered civil rights lawyer than those 850 missing cars that passed through corrupt police hands. TIT.
