Our website is due for some technical work and repairs starting sometime tomorrow after midnight, Bangkok time, and continuing for about 36 hours. You will still be able to access the site but posters in some areas may not be able to post during all or part of the process. Please bear with us if you type a comment but are unable to post it on the board. It should all be fixed and back to normal soon.

The problems that Bahtstop has been having with posting seem to be more difficult to than we thought. Please bear with us, as many of you have been unable to post at all. Our apologies. We are working on the problem.

Is it the people in Thailand who are having trouble posting?

According to emails received by the Administrator, the problem seems to be that a significant number of posters, including Mod2 and Hedda, are unable to access their account, in or out of Thailand, because their passwords do not seem to work. It's not clear just what has caused this problem or how to correct it without requiring re-registration under a new name in order to gain access.

The Administrator is working on the problem. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks to all the members who have sent us emails suggesting ways to get the board back into normal operations. It looks like there has been some intentional hacking involved in trying to disrupt the board's oparations. The "experts" are working on getting the damage repaired by restoring all original passwords AND making sure it won't happen again.

Thanks again for your patience.

Just wondering how the repairs are going - they seem to be taking forever.

I'm sure that MauRICE is with me in getting a bit worried that we seem to be the only regular posters!! Besides, I for one miss Hedda's (and others) succinct and pithy comments on the subject of the day rolleyes.gif

Very much so. I hope the problems will be sorted out soon.

The Administrator, Bahtstop, advises that they have been able to trace the board's problems to an intentional hacking into the website's registration system and, for security reasons, don't want to comment on the work being done to not only reinstate all the members who can't post now, but also to make the system secure once everyone can post again.

I am happy to report that our website registration process has been restored to its original configuration and all registrations and original passwords have been restored. Most important, we have repaired the problems which might have allowed future mischief with the system by some interlopers.

My apologies to all the posters who have been unable to post during this period. I thought originally that I could easily repair the problem in a few days - before I realized that some sophisticated meddler was playing with the software. Then I thought it might be necessary to have a lot of posters delete their accounts to re-register under the same posting names. Thanks to some very competent help, I think the system is back to normal without any further hassles.

Thanks for your emails. Please let me know promptly at Bahtstop@aol.com if you have any problems posting now.

If it's any comfort to you, I has no trouble poting today for the first time in about 3 weeks. Here's hoping you got the bugs out.

I have also been able to post in the Hopper for the first time since late May. Do you have any idea who could have been attempting to "mess with" the system ?

Frankly, when I first discovered over two weeks ago that I could not post anything, I feared that some of the critiqes being made on various local subjects of political interest may have come home to roost. In that sense, it's comforting to know from the Administrator that the cause of the problems does not appear to have any local roots. In any event, it's great to be back posting. I was getting so desperate to post that I actually considered one hazy evening after an elaborate wine tasting posting on Sawatdee Forum to register and post there. Thankfully, the French Burgundies did not get the better of me.

My guess is that the local authorities know how to pull the plug on a whole website but lack the know-how to hack into the system as was apparently done here. It's nice to be able to read AND post again.

I realize that you may not be able to comment on specifics for security reasons, but I am curious to know if there was any pattern to the hacking as to which posters were unable to post. Any specifics you can safely provide on the subject would be appreciated.

Thank God, Baht-stop forum is back again... On several evenings when heavy on the Merlot we almost asked G.B. to forgive us our sins and we were planning to ask him to welcome us back at his forum.

Sorry, but the Administrator advises that discussing these issues on the board would not be helpful from a security standpoint.
