"A construction foreman scared off a gang of men who appeared intent on setting fire to Auditor-General Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka’s new house early on Wednesday morning. . .

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Jongrak Juthanont said it appeared to be an act of intimidation. An investigation had begun.Khunying Jaruvan said she did not understand why anyone would resort to such a violent act. As a state auditor for 10 years, phone threats were normal, but nobody had ever tried to set her house on fire before.

While declining to comment further, she believed there was only one group of people capable of doing such a thing.

Khunying Jaruvan’s house has been a public target of a group calling itself the network against corruption. In June, its members petitioned the National Counter Corruption Commission to investigate the source of the money used. They claimed the house was costing 50 million baht, while Khunying Jaruvan puts the cost at just four million baht."

It will be interesting to see if that investigation goes anywhere. The NCCC can be a black hole into which problems disappear at times. It would be interesting to see what this lady's assets disclosure statements, which I presume she had to make as Auditor-General, show as her net worth with a house this size being built.
