"The People's Alliance for Democracy will on Sunday hold a mass rally to announce its retaliations against a columnist of Loke Wannee newspaper accused of lese majesty, PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang said on Friday.
Chamlong said the columnist, known by the pen name "Kalib", wrote articles deemed offensive to the monarchy for four consecutive days. The articles were published by the newspaper and posted in various Web sites, he said."

If the lese majeste law ever goes away, it'll only happen with Rama IX's blessing and/or after his demise.

The irony of the whole thing is that the King seemed to indicate quite clearly in his Birthday Message in december, 2005 that he did not view himself as above criticism, with the obvious implication that lese majeste had outlived its welcome in the 2lst century.
The Thai politicians have basically ignored that speech since then and the military actually suggested that the coup of 2006 was designed in part to "protect the monarchy," as if it were under attack by the elected constitutional government.
It would all be very adolescent and harmless, this idea of adult leaders demonstrating their loyalty by donning a safron shirt or lapel pin, but for the fact that innocent people are being thrown in jail these days, some without bail, under the questionable accusation that they have committed lese majeste. It's a deplorable situation which cries for reform.
