"The Election Commission (EC) will announce today whether it will recommend the dissolution of the People Power party (PPP) for complicity in vote-buying by a party executive member in the Dec 23 general election. EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond said yesterday the commissioners had received the report of the inquiry panel that looked into the PPP case.
They will make a decision today.
The commissioners will apply the same standard the EC applied earlier in deciding to recommend to the Constitution Court the dissolution of two other coalition parties, Chart Thai and Matchimathipataya, he said.
If the decision is in favour of dissolution of the PPP, the attorney-general will be asked to forward the case to the court within 30 days.
If the attorney-general thinks differently, the two agencies will form a joint committee to review the case.
''I can confirm that the Election Commission feels no pressure, even though the PPP expects dissolution and has set up a substitute party,'' Mr Apichart said.''The EC bases its actions only on facts. It does not want to hurt any party but wants to restore order in the nation and to see justice done.''
The EC began considering the PPP's dissolution after the Constitution Court ruled early last month that former PPP deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyapairat bought votes in last year's general election and disqualified him.
People Power MP for Samut Prakan Songkram Kitlertpairote said the PPP's key figures and MPs believed their party would be certainly disbanded, so they would move to the Puea Thai party.Mr Songkram said he led the movement to register Puea Thai as a political party a year ago. Its development was making concrete progress. Some PPP MPs already expressed an intention to join Puea Thai."

Is someone getting cold feet ?
"The Election Commission decided Tuesday to postpone its decision in the party-dissolution case against the People Power Party to next week.
The EC reasoned that it would like to hear testimony from certain election officials involved before making a final decision."
