"The Council of State, the government's legal adviser, ruled Tuesday that the three ministers linked to the digit lottery case can continue their work after the the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions accepted a lawsuit against them for alleged links to the two- and three-digit lottery scheme.

Members of the Council of State voted 5:1 that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee, Labour Minister Uraiwan Thienthong and Deputy Transport Minister Anurak Jureemat do not have to be suspended from work pending the digit lottery trial.

According to Prime Minister's Office Minister, who oversees the government legal affairs, the Council of State explained that the case took place during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration, not the current government, thus the ministers should be allowed to work. The three ministers were in the Thaksin Shinawatra cabinet which introduced the digit lottery scheme in 2003.

The decision came after the People's Alliance for Democracy asked the Supreme Administrative Court to suspend the ministers from work last week."
