"Interior Minister Kowit Wattana said he was never agreed with a military coup in 2006, saying that police would have been shot if they did not follow soldiers' order.

Pol Gen Kowit, who was a member of military junta that overthrew the Thaksin Shinawatra administration, said he never wanted to support the coup, but added that he did not want to say much on this to prevent hurting feelings of others.

He said the country at the time was in a political crisis, and his friends at the army had to stage the coup. If police refused to put down their guns, they would be shot as soldiers had more forces than police, he claimed.

He also called on the 'silent power' to make themselves heard.Pol Gen Kowit said that most of the people want to see the government doing good deeds, but they fail to speak out when it does. This, he said, is the 'silent power'. If people of this group speak out, it could stop the bad people from creating rifts within the country, he quipped."
