"His Majesty the King offered encouraging words to Bank of Thailand Governor Tarisa Watanagase and her team in the central bank's monetary policy and reserves management.
"I wish that you could manage the money to billion or 10 billion without depleting it, so that the country has money to spend," said the King. "I wish you achieve a success for your hard work. I also wish you manage it well to prevent the country from disaster. Now we're almost facing calamity because we're not careful with our spending."
The King was speaking to Tarisa and her delegation, who presented to him the surplus income from the sale of a special banknote to commemorate His Majesty's 80th Birthday Celebration on December 5, 2007.
"I know that you're tired from your work and even get criticism that you don't do it right. I would like to thank all of you for coming here today and work hard so that the country has money to spend. Anybody who is in charge of the country's fiscal management must understand what is important for the country."

It's amusing to see the way that Thai politics works and how subtle messages can be sent so calmly in the swirl of nasty politics.
By all reports, the Samak government is hot to dump BOT Governor Tarisa and her apparent insistence that Thailand has got to raise interest rates to control the inflation genie, even if that slows economic growth to a crawl.
PPP politicians see it quite differently, wanting to pump more cheap money into the economy to give things that "booming" aura if and when elections are held by December. The last thing an incumbent politician wants is to run for re-election in a recession.
If you're like me, you start to wonder just whose brainchild this latest royal reception for the BOT Governor was.
