"The coalition government led by the Democrat party is expected to put forward the names of some People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) core members to take the posts of advisers or secretaries to various ministers at the cabinet meeting Tuesday.

Some of the likely candidates from the yellow-shirt group include Pichet Pattanachote as Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai's adviser, Samran Rodphet as Science and Technology Minister Kalaya Sophonpanich's secretary, and Praphan Khunmee as Deputy Minister of Commerce Alongkorn Ponlaboot's adviser.

Deputy Prime Minister overseeing security and Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban said the government will not single out people who are for or against the PAD, but it wants people who can help work with the ministers."

"Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva has defended his decision to appoint as adviser to the government a member of a protest group that was behind a siege of Bangkok's airports last year.

The appointment risks causing further divisions with supporters of ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, whose allies were driven from government partly as a result of the crippling week-long blockade in late November.

Abhisit, who came to power after the last government fell in mid-December, said Prapanth Koonmee, a member of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), had not committed any crime by giving speeches during the movement's rallies. "Whoever was on stage, if they didn't violate the law then there is no problem. Whoever has broken the law will be prosecuted," Abhisit told reporters.

Prapanth was appointed as an adviser to the deputy commerce minister at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Media reported earlier that two other leading PAD members, Samran Rodpetch and Phichet Pattanachot, would also be given advisory posts but there was no immediate confirmation from the government."

You would think that a government which keeps insisting that it's going to punish the PAD criminals who led the takeover of the airport would have enough sense not to hire one of the more prominent organizers of the takeover in its early weeks in office. It indicates that this government is being totally insincere in its claim to be intent on prosecuting PAD and/or that the forces running this government are so beholden to PAD for setting the stage for the "silent coup" that it's returning the favor. Either way, Junior is looking more like a puppet every day. The big question is who is pulling the strings.
