"The trashing of the prime minister’s bullet-proof car at the Ministry of the Interior during the Bangkok protests last month was carried out by soldiers wearing red shirts, according to UDD leader Jatuporn Promphan.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s statement he was in the vehicle with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban when it came under attack by protestors was a lie, Mr Jatuporn said.
Only the driver was in the car at the time, said Mr Jatuporn, a leading member of the anti-government United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).He said the government was trying to send out false information. More than half of those who assaulted the car were soldiers who had donned red shirts, he said. Red shirts are worn by UDD supporters.
Mr Jatuporn, who is an opposition Puea Thai party MP, said pictures supporting his allegations would be revealed during the UDD rally on Sunday. He said accused some members of the police force of serving the needs of politicians. Mr Jatuporn cited the lack of progress in bringing charges against leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy over the occupation of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports last year."

It seems to me that there must be video to show who was in the car:
"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was inside his car with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban when it was attacked by anti-government protesters at the Interior Ministry during Songkran, PM's Office secretary-general Nipon Prompan said on Friday.
Mr Nipon said the claim on Thursday by opposition Puea Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan, a core member of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, that Mr Abhisit had lied and that the prime minister and Mr Suthep were not inside the vehicle when it was attacked on April 12 was unfounded. . .
Army spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd on Friday also rejected Mr Jatuporn's allegation that many of the attackers were soldiers hired by government supporters to wear red shirts and pound on the prime minister's car. THe soldiers on duty to maintain order around the Interior Ministry, but they were wearing military camouflage fatigues, he said.
They were positioned in peripheral areas of the ministry grounds and were not near the scene of the attack"

"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday dismissed allegations that the Songkran rioting had been planned by the government, insisting that he was in the car that was battered by anti-government protesters at the Abhisit said the government had not plotted the violence that broke out at the Interior Ministry and at the meeting venue of the Asean Summit in Pattaya on April 11-12.
He said he was surprised that the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) leaders had distorted the facts surrounding what happened on those days despite ample evidence that he was facing a life-threatening situation.
Pheu Thai Party MP Jatuporn Promphan had on Thursday said Abhisit and Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban were not in the cars that were attacked by red-shirted protesters at the Interior Ministry. He claimed that the government had soldiers wear red shirts and act violently so as to frame charges against the DAAD. . .
Jatuporn said he had pictures that had not been shown anywhere else but that he would expose during tomorrow's rally. The pictures allegedly show Abhisit and Suthep changing cars and leaving the ministry while leaving the other car to lure the red-shirt attacks."

There's a fascinating article on the front page of this morning's The Nation in which one of its editors, Piyanart Srivalo, in a piece entltled " Unanswered Questions about attack on PM" tries to explore the continuing dispute of whether PM Opposite lied when he claimed he really was in the Mercedes limousine that was attacked at the Interior Ministry during the height of the Bangkok demonstrations.
For their part, many of the red shirts leaders claim that the attack at the Interior Ministry, no matter who was in what car, was planned and conceived by men masquerading as red shirts.
At first blush, Piyanart's article appears to be little more than a thinly disguised attempt to accuse Issan's bad boy politician, Newin Chidchob, who some believe intentionally triggered the blue shirt violence in Pattaya, of also arranging the attack in Bangkok, as follows:
Having laid the no-so-subtle seeds blaming Chidchob for the attack, Piyanart then goes on to explain how Abhisit and Deputy Suthep decided to leave the Ministry in a Mercedes, while his secretary-general Niphon rode in a BMW. In the course of exploring what happened next as the cars departed, Piyanart exposes for the first time a startling fact, as follows:
Policemen disguised in red shirts ? One wonders what Pandora's box Khun Piyanart has opened.

"There is still no proof, as suggested by some sources, whether Newin Chidchob was trying to trap Abhisit but doubts have been raised why the Interior Ministry was chosen as the command centre.Someone attending the meeting admitted to me that they were confident about the premier's safety because Newin's brother Saksayam had guaranteed that he could control the situation. Saksayam is head of a working group with Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul.

QUOTE
"The attack was the worst incident Niphon had ever encountered. He even thought for a moment he might die because of the damage to the car and his own injury. Niphon was helped out by a policeman, who disguised himself as a red-shirted protester. The man yelled that Niphon had a broken rib so the protesters allowed him out of the scene."
