"Deputy Prime Minister Suthep on Tuesday gave a green light to Asian leaders to bring their own armed bodyguards to the Asean+6 summit when it resumes in Phuket. But they would require the prior agreement of Asean, he said. . .

Mr Suthep reiterated that Thailand is ready to host the resumed Asean summit, but said the date still has not been confirmed because it must be convenient for leaders from all 16 countries. The summit is tentatively set for June 13 to 14 at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa. . .

Mr Suthep also said the government plans to enforce the provisions of the Security Act when the summit resumes to ensure there is no repeat of the Pattaya fiasco.

Wisut Tangwithayakorn, a leader of the red-shirt group in Phuket, and 20 of his members affirmed on Tuesday they would not hold a rally during the summit.Mr Wisut said the group would not cause damage to Phuket, as the rival yellow-shirt group had done by closing Phuket airport last year. He also called on the government to reconsider the plan to enforce the Security Act on the resort island during the meeting, saying it would affect tourism there in the long run."

I don't know what the big fuss is about the use of foreign leaders having their own secutiry details. The US President is guarded by the US Secret Service no matter what country he visits, including Thailand. Given the total lack of performance of the police and army at the PAd seizure of the airport or the collapse of the ASEAN summit in Pattaya, it's no wonder foreign leaders want to bring their own security people with them. Maybe if the Thai generals who are so upset with talk of foreign security had done their jobs in the first place, none of this talk would have risen.
