I dont usually post about peersonal matters but I wanted to share this recent experience with you. Since I have been visiting Pattaya for at least 4 years now, I know quite a few guys who free lance or work in bars and who have become regular sex buddies when I am here. Our normal rate for short time has always been 1000 baht and usually doesn't involve more than one hour.

I recently met a gay Thai guy here who is about 40 years old and owns a shop. He has a Thai lover about the same age and they seem very middle class. He told me after a few drinks at their place the other night that they like to share young Thai rent boys from time to time, but that they never pay more than 500 baht for short time, even for boys they pick up at bars or karaoke places, especially those run by Thais.

I have no reason to think that he wasn't telling the truth. What I'm wondering is why I should be paying double that ?

I have always thought it funny that one should be advised to ask a bar owner or mamasan what the "going rate" is for sexual favors. That's like asking a used car dealer what's the fair price for that clunker he's trying to sell you.
Obviously the bars would like to see the short-time rates as high as possible to keep a steady stream of boys coming to work in them. Over time, however, the internet is probably going to be just as influential in setting prices.

I have noticed recently online that some boys are quite ready to discuss discounting, which I assume is caused by the sharp drop in tourists.

Thai boys are more comfortable with thai men. We are farang and considered rich as we can travel and live abroad. Truth is if it wasn't for the money they probably would not have much to do with us. While they may genuinely like you if you take the money out of it they would stay within their own race.

I think that applies to both Thai and farang johns, assuming that a big percentage of rent boys are straight men who would prefer women for fun. One of the problems these straight guys have in places like Pattaya is that they got to pay for sex with Thai women who are availble.

I don't agree with luvthai- or at least my experience is different.

Thais on the commercial scene tend to prefer falang for a variety of reasons; money naturally, the fact that they can compartmentalise their sexual activities, affording them "distance" between between their activities and families/social life. And if you go to Babylon you will find some who actually find us attractive.

A few months ago a very cute guy I met in Boyztown, on the scene in Pattaya for a year, an ex-soldier- and gay- told me that he'd never had sex with a Thai. Nor would he.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't with a falang. Obviously a match made in heaven. My only regret is that my fantasies about Thai Army officers and recruits have been dealt a blow.

I think the answer was meant to say that rent-a-hooker is common throughout Thailand but gay sex costs usually costs less.

In my experience, the answer to Danny's question is an unqualified "No!"
