I noticed on another board that the schedule for GayPattayan's funeral involves three days of various religious ceremonies at a Buddhist Wat. While I respect any decision to have such proceedings, it's not the kind of send-off I'd like, assuming I will probably die here as an expat.
Does anyone know if it's possible to be cremated in Pattaya in a simple private, non-religious thing without anyone but very close friends in attendance, no rites, songs, speeches or any other ceremonies ? Are Wats the only place you can get cremated and do they insist on religious ceremonies as part of the process ?
I would also like to arrange everything in advance if it's possible, thus making sure nobody has the burden of doing it when I am gone. Anyone know if it can be done here, hopefully in advance.

Interesting question. I have to confess that I don't think I have ever seen a funeral parlor or undertaker's in Thailand. I did some googling, however, and there appear to be two "international undertaker services" available in Bangkok," both of which can be found at the following link posted by the British Embassy in Cambodia.

One of those firms is an Australian Company which has a Bangkok address and a Thai representative. Their webpage does discuss pre-paid funerals as well, so my guess is that you may be able to contract with them for a simple non-religions cremation if and when you die in Thailand.
One of the things you may want to consider before making that arrangement is how your survivors feel about it. If you are leaving behind Thai friends who are Buddhists, they may well take comfort in arranging for your final rites in a Buddhist Wat. Since you'll be dead, and presumably free of all concerns, maybe their feelings that should control what gets done with your remains. So long as you have provided the financial means to do it, maybe funerals are something the living should arrange for their own peace of mind.
