When I read this report, I wondered if Suthep had even bothered to ask the prime minister what his opinion was on the matter:

"Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Tuesday that he disagreed with a reported plan by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security(UNDSS) to set up an office to monitor the situation in Thailand's deep South.

Suthep said the southern insurgency is an internal affair of Thailand and has nothing to do with the UN."I think the problems in the deep South are Thailand's internal affairs," Suthep said.

The UNDSS has reportedly deployed officials to talk to the southern army chief, governors of the three southern border provinces and academics in the deep South to determine whether it should set up an office in the region."

That's what the gang running Burma always say about their crimes. You don't think there might be something to hide in what's happening in the south ?
