I guess you can go to jail for 18 years for making a speech but overthrow the government and it gets you a future in politics:
"The Matubhum Party has extended an invitation for coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratglin to lead the party as part of the preparations ahead of the next general election, interim party leader Mun Phathanothai said Thursday.
"Sonthi is a senior figure, fit for the job and involved with the party affairs since the beginning," Mun said.He voiced confident that Sonthi could lead the party to electoral victory and that he could also assisted in quelling violence in the Deep South.
Sonthi is expected to give his formal reply by this month, following the end of the Muslim fasting month."
