"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Saturday that he was worried about the rally at the Preah Vihear national park in Si Saket province by supporters of the People’s Alliance for Democracy. “If PAD leaders lead the crowds into the disputed border area near the ancient Preah Vihear temple, there could be violent confrontation”, Mr Abhisit said.

The premier had directed his deputy in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban to reinforce soldiers and police at the national park to prevent PAD protesters to trespass the disputed area.

At about 2pm PAD supporters managed to pass through police blockage at Phumisarol village, a bout 3 kms away from the entrance gate of Preah Vihear national park. They had clashed with the local villagers, leaving several people injured.Soldiers have set up blockage at the entrance of the national park to block the demonstrators from entering into the disputed border area along Thai-Cambodia border."

This is called passing the hot potato:

"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had ordered leaders of police and the military in Si Sa Ket province to hold talks with core leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to prevent violence. His order was made after the premier received a report on violent clash between PAD’s security guards and local villagers in Phumisarol village who blocked PAD supporters from passing through to Preah Vihear national park.

“The PAD leaders could be allowed to go to Pha Mor I-Daeng to read out their protest statement in order to end the anti-cambia demonstration in the border province” Mr Abhisit said on Saturday afternoon.

Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang, another core leader of PAD, suggested Mr Abhisit to send his representative to hold talk only with Veera Somkwamkid, a PAD key member who led the rally. Suriyasai Katasila, PAD coordinator, called on the premier to hold talks with Mr Veera to prevent unrest. He insisted that PAD’s five core leaders had nothing to with the rally in Si Sa Ket."

"Dozens of protesters, police and villagers were injured in fiery clashes near the border with Cambodia yesterday as a protest by the People's Alliance for Democracy spun out of control. The government declared martial law as PAD supporters, in a protest over sovereignty, met unexpected resistance from hundreds of Si Sa Ket villagers who blocked their path.

The PAD was trying to march to a disputed border area close to Preah Vihear temple. Stick-wielding protesters clashed repeatedly with riot police and villagers who were trying to keep them out. Nearby, soldiers set up barricades to stop the PAD reaching the border area disputed with Cambodia. They reinforced the Khao Phra Viharn national park office in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket.

But the government was forced to declare martial law after protesters were able to break through barricades to reach the military-controlled area. The clashes between PAD protesters and villagers left scores of people on both sides injured, including two people in a critical condition."

Did you notive that there don't seem to have been any arrests made in all this violence. Can you imagine how many arrests would have been made if the demonstrators were Red Shirts, not PAD.
