"A lawyer for the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Monday filed a libel complaint with the police against Privy Council president and Statesman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda for his comments about former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh joining the Puea Thai Party.
Gen Prem earlier warned Gen Chavalit, whom he referred to as a friend, to think carefully before joining the opposition party as some people could see it as a betrayal of the country.
Red-shirt lawyer Karom Talaklang said the UDD planned legal action against Gen Prem for defaming the Puea Thai Party and senior member Gen Chavalit under sections 326 and 328 of the Penal Code. Gen Prem also violated the Article 14 of the 2007 constitution by not being impartial towards political parties, Mr Karom alleged."

I guess it's ok to commit treason by staging a coup d'etat but joining a political party is seen as betraying the country. What sort of political insanity is this ?

Although I'm certain that this lawsuit will go nowhere, I find it significant that it was filed in the first place. It would have been unthinkable just a few years ago to sue the head of the King's privy council for defamation. Now, the Reds openly accuse him of masterminding the coup of 2006. Some people might call that progress.
