"Cambodian President Hun Sen has built a house for Thaksin Shinawatra to stay in his country whenever he wants to, Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said on his return from Cambodia on Wednesday.

Gen Chavalit left on Wednesday morning for a visit to Cambodia at the invitation of Hun Sen.The former prime minister, now a member of the Puea Thai Party, said he met Hun Sen and the Cambodian leader expressed deep sympathy for Thaksin. The Cambodian leader said Thaksin was not given justice and had nowhere to go despite the fact that he had done a lot for the country, Gen Chavalit said.

Gen Chavalit was full of praise for Hun Sen. He said Hun Sen had built a beautiful house to receive Thaksin who was welcomed at any time."

"Fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra will face extradition if he enters Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban said on Thursday. Suthep said Cambodia and Thailand has an extradition agreement which will be enforced to apprehend Thaksin in order to bring him back to serve his two-year jail term.

He was reacting to reports that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has offered to build a house to welcom Thaksin who he sees as a old friend."

Thaksin has got to be very careful about using Cambodia as a base of operations, especially given the potential for trouble if these two countries' contentious relationship over the border temple areas should result in more violence. Assuming he can trust Hun Sen not to extradite him to Thailand, which is probably the case given the political nature of the charges against him, Thaksin must make sure that he can never be seen as "siding with Cambodia" against Thailand.

There's enough jingoism in most Thais to make a Hun sen-Thaksin alliance a very dangerous high stakes gamble for Thaksin, should he find himself caught between Thailand and Cambodia in a border dispute, especially one that gets violent again. Our effete Prime minister and his Bangkok elite sponsors, not to mention the PAD fanatics, would not hesitate to label Thaksin a traitor if there is the slightest hint that he is supporting those nasty Khmers against "Khon Thai."

Thaksin's too smart to settle permanently and publicly in Cambodia and cause a diplomatic row over extradition. He also knows that any violence between Cambodia and Thailand on the border would put him in an untenable position. On the other hand, the fact that he might be able at any time to enter Cambodia by air with ease, from where he could easily cross the border from Cambodia into Issan, will certainly give Khun Abhisit and his masters something to think about.

"Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on Thursday that he planned to appoint convicted ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as his economic advisor. He made the statement upon arrival at Hua Hin airport to attend the 15th Asean Summit. He missed the Asean Summit's opening ceremony on Friday morning as he was busy receving South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.

"It is true that I would invite former Prime Minister Thaksin to visit Cambodia anytime and to be my economic advisor," he said through an interpreter. He denied that he was interfering in Thailand's internal affairs. "Our concern is for humanitarian reasons, it is friends helping friends. The internal affairs of Thailand would be left for Thai people to resolve, I am not interfering."

"I would like to suggest that you should read the extradition treaty between Thailand and Cambodia on Article 3. So he can stay in Cambodia as a guest of Cambodia and he also can be my advisor on the economic (matters)."
Article 3 of the Thai-Cambodia extradition treaty states that extradition would not be granted if the requested party considered the offence is political one. Thaksin was sentenced to two years in jail in absentia in Thailand for abusing of power and corruption.

Hun Sen insisted that it was not an interference in Thailand's internal affairs but it is a political rights of sovereign state of Cambodia. Asked whether the plan would be considered interfering in Thai politics, Hun Sen insisted that it was under Cambodia's rights to do so."

It didn't take them long.

"Protesters led by People's Alliance for Democracy on Saturday threatened to protest and surround the Cambodian Embassy next month unless Cambodia withdrew its troops from area adjacent to Preah Vihear Temple.
The threat was made when they organised a brief protest at Puk Tien Beach in Cha-Am district Saturday, demanding the withdrawal of troops from the area immediately.

"We will protest at the Cambodian Embassy next month. Unless its government withdrew troops from the disputed area, we will surround the embassy."

Some 30 people gathered at the beach, about ten kilometers from meeting venue of Asean Summit, also in responding to harsh remarks by Cambodia that it would not extradite former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to Thailand. Prime Minister Hun Sen said upon arrival in Hua Hin to attend the summit on Friday that he would make Thaksin his economic adviser. The statement fuels tension in the relation with the Thai government which wanted Thaksin to return to Thailand to serve jail term on abuse of power and corruption charges.

The protesters held banners, reading that Hun Sen was not welcomed by Thai people.Thailand and Cambodia have been at the loggerhead over the disputed area near the Hindu temple for long time but the issue was heated a year ago as it was listed as a world heritage site."
