"Laboratory tests cannot be conducted on the controversial GT200 bomb detector because of confidentiality agreements struck when they were purchased, say members of a government panel assessing the device.

Pansak Siriruchatapong, director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre, said: "The purchasers had an agreement with the traders that they would not reveal any information regarding the device."
As a result, the only option left to the panel was to conduct field testing, he told the Bangkok Post Sunday.

Jehrrming Tohtayong, a member of the national security panel, said members had discussed the prospect of holding laboratory tests, but said they were concerned this would violate the seller's intellectual rights on the product. He believed laboratory testing should be conducted as well, but this was beyond the panel's authority as it was asked to look into the device's effectiveness only."
