If the people running things in Bangkok had some notion that the military campaign in the South is succeeding, they might take a look at this startling statement attributed to Prasit Meksuwan, chairman of a panel analysing problems in the region under the Advisory Council for Peace Building in the Southern Border Provinces. According to Prasit:
"Separatist violence in the region has driven away large numbers of Buddhists. Only 80,000 to 100,000 Buddhists remain in the southern border provinces, compared with 320,000 six years ago."
