Remarks in The Nation on the need to respect the decision of the court in the Thaksin assets case:

"It is my duty to respect the court's verdict, whatever it is. It's the country's highest court, and should be respected by every Thai. In fact, the judiciary system is a critical component of the checks-and-balances system in a democracy and there are always people who agree or disagree on certain issues in any democracy. This time, however, the government should take strict legal measures [if there is unrest]. We need to govern by the rule of law."

Sounds great, doesn't it ?

[attachmentid=705]Until you realize that the speaker of this interview was none other than General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, the front man for the coup that not only deposed Thaksin, but ousted all members of the Supreme Court, which was then packed with "new faces." Sonthi now heads his own political party. I wanted to throw up when I read these comments.
