I use 1-2-Call on my mobile phone here in Thailand.

My question: If you do not erase old messages that you send or received, will that cause the phone to get progressively slower in opening new messages as they are received ?

My phone seems to take forever now to open a message. Is that because I have lots of old messages stored in there or is the phone just getting old ?

Not sure about that.
But for sure I know that the telephone gets a lot heavier if it hold a lot of old messages.

And it's even heavier if the phone uses Thai script, because the word "krap" appears after every fourth word.

Some weight is saved with Thai, however, since there are no periods, commas or most other heavy punctuation marks.

The average message weighs about 2.341 entermentors. The extra weight can equal the weight of 1/4 of the average Thai boy!

I know someone who posts on this board whose English is written that way.

Actually, it does appear that large number of stored messages slows things down, but why not take the phone to a qualified technician to find out? If you are in Pattaya, there are several telephone service technicians in Tuk Com, and most speak English quite well. Why not take the phone and have one of them check the problem.

You know, most phones have a delete button where you can erase all of your inbox or sent message with the push of one button.

Unless there's some reason to be keeping all those old calls, push the button ans see if it makes messages open quicker. Let us know if it works.

Any device which uses a memory store will gradually slow down as the memory is used up.

In the case of your phone your messages will slow down on opening as the device has to find spare memory to display the text. The simple solution is to delete old messages of if you must keep them then forward them from your phone to your email address, then delete them from the phone.

I have a Nokia and I just erased about 10 months of messages. I also went through the names and deleted all kinds of names I never use or call anymore.

There was an immediate noticeable improvement in the speed of opening 2 new messages.
