"Over a thousand monks would go to Sanam Luang on Friday night to show solidarity with the red-shirted demonstrators’ motor rally around Bangkok on Saturday, the Buddhist Monk Network for Unity said.

Phra Panya Panyataro, a monk from Surat Thani, said various groups of people such as student leaders and trade union leaders have supported the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) demonstrators, Now monks would too. He said all monks arriving at Sanam Luang tents would have identity cards and be registered so there were no fake monks.

The monks routine so far was morning and evening prayer for peace and non-violence and one walk round of Sanam Luang every day, said the monk.Sathien Wipromha, a layman coordinator for the network, said some 1,200 monks would arrive at Sanam Lunag on Friday night. . .

“Monks are also citizens of the Thai nation so they can also voice their concern of our state. Usually, monks do not want to leave their temples especially during the rainy season and the Buddhist Lent, but if the laymen protestors could not achieve their goals and want to stay on till Songkran, some of the monks might also stay here with them,” said the layman coordinator."
