Apparently, some genius in the Abhisit government finally realized that pictures going out to the world showing troops crawling all over and around Parliament made it look to the world like there really had been another coup.
"The government will withdraw the troops deployed around the parliament immediately after the end of the House meeting today, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Thursday.Mr Suthep was replying in a question during the meeting of the House of Representatives. He said soldiers would remain inside and around the parliament building compound for the time being because core leaders of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship had vowed to keep hounding the prime minister wherever he goes.
After the House meeting, the troops would be pulled away from the parliament and the cement barricades and barbed wire inside and around the parliament would also be removed, he said.
Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej had earlier this morning urged the government to consider pulling the troops away from the parliament. A group of senators, led by Uttaradit senator Naruemon Siriwat, this morning also submitted an open letter to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, demanding the removal of soldiers deployed at the parliament. Opposition chief whip Witthaya Buranasiri earlier this morning confirmed that Puea Thai Party MPs would continue to boycott House meetings until the troops and concrete barriers were removed from around the parliament."
