"Former deputy leader of the Democrat Party Anek Laothamatas is throwing his weight behind the dissolution of the parliament as the answer to defusing the escalating political tension. Mr Anek, also a former leader of the Mahachon Party, urged Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday to seriously consider dissolving dissolve the lower house as soon as possible to prevent further bloodshed as a result of a possible crackdown on the anti-government protesters by security forces. . .
Mr Anek, who is now an independent analyst, said if the government wanted to reclaim Ratchaprasong, the country would ''plunge into chaos'' and there would be more lives lost.Even if the security forces led by the army were successful in clearing Ratchaprasong, the political problem would not be resolved because demonstrators would regroup in other places, he said, who is a former deputy leader of the Democrats Party.
Mr Abhisit offered in negotiations with UDD leaders last month to dissolve the parliament in nine months but the proposal was rejected. The coalition parties on Sunday, in the wake of Saturday's bloodshed, proposed that the lower house be dissolved in six months. But the UDD demanded that the prime minister dissolve the parliament immediately now to take responsibility on the clashes.
Mr Anek said dissolving the parliament now was a legitimate solution to move the country out of the political crisis. ''The problem now has to be resolved through political means,'' he said. His idea is in line with army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda who on Monday showed his preference to seeing the political solution instead of military options."
