There's a lengthy article in the Asia Times online by Shawn Crispin, who has a lot of Bangkok experience, outlining the possible divisions within the Thai army. One suspects in reading the article that the writer has sources within the high command.

The article suggests that there may be a "half-coup" in the oven, in which Supreme Commander, General Songkitti and Chief of the Army, General Anupong, are relieved of command and replaced by hard line deputies who are ultra- monarchists and Abhisit supporters committed to a harsh crack down on the red shirts.

The article is dated April 17 but it appears to have been written before General Aunpong called for the meeting of all commanders this coming Monday. The fact that Anupong called the meeting suggests that any plans for a "half coup"may have been nipped in the bud.
