"Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva cancelled his weekly television show this morning -- a rather strange and inexplicable decision. Nobody, not even his spokesman, gave any reason for the premier's "disappearance" except for some press reports that he had gone to Hua Hin with his family for a weekend-end vacation.

A vacation at such a crucial juncture? Well, he might be trying to portray an image of a cool head amidst a crisis. But till, that's a strange behaviour considering the fact that he had just named Army Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda to head the anti-terrorist operations while keeping Deputy PM Suthep Thuagsuban as the token head of the Emergency Operations Command.

Abhisit has not talked to the press for nine days. He appeared for five minutes Friday evening to announce the "structural change" at the emergency operations center, admitting that the campaign earlier in the day had failed to nab some Red leaders at SC Park Hotel.

One would have expected him to explain "the next step" in his weekly television show. But he simply chose to keep an even lower profile while he should be communicating with the public about what is actually happening.

Things are looking curiouser and curiouser every day."
