Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Wednesday garnered the highest votes of confidence but Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul and Transport Minister Sophon Saram failed to win a minimum support, raising a question about the Cabinet reshuffle.
Abhist won 246 votes of confidence with 186 votes of no-confidence and 11 absent.
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban got 245 votes of confidence with 187 votes of no-confidence and 11 absent.
Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij received 244 votes of confidence with 187 votes of no-confidence and 12 absent.
Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya had 239 votes of confidence with 190 votes of no-confidence and 15 absent.
Chaovarat had 236 votes of confidence with 194 votes of no-confidence and 14 absent.
Sophon had 234 votes of confidence with196 votes of no-confidence and 13 absent.
A censure target needs a minimum of 238 votes to survive the motion of no-confidence.

It's not clear who came up with the language: "A censure target needs a minimum of 238 votes to survive the motion of no-confidence." If that's accurate, then Ministers Chaovarat and Sophon, both Bhun Jai member, appears to have fallen short of a majority required to avoid censure, and Mr. Congeniality (FM) Kasit escaped the same fate by one vote. The initial news reports are saying that all ministers survived censure, although it will be interesting to see who may have jumped ship in the coalition and/or Pheu Thai.

Since posting the above, I have found that Article 158 of the Thai Constitution says that a no-confidence vote requires a yes vote from a majoroity of all MP's to succeed, which in this case would have apparently been 238 votes. In that sense, abstentions have to be seen as a vote against censure.

I guess they came up with that formula the same way they came up with the 1,000Bt minimum for 'short time'.

"The Bhum Jai Thai Party on Wednesday issued an ultimatum demanding the departure of Puea Pandin from the coalition alliance on the ground of casting censure votes against its two ministers, Chaovarat Chanweerakul and Sophon Saram.
"Prime Minister Abhisit (Vejjajiva) must choose between Bhum Jai Thai and Puea Pandin because the two parties could no longer work together on the same team," Deputy Transport Minister Suchart chokchaiwattankorn said. Suchart said Puea Pandin must be cut loose if the coalition alliance is to stay intact.
He said the rift between the two parties originated from a series of disagreements over the allocations of funds for the construction of highway and local roads."
