"The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office Wednesday agreed to proceed with the charge against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was accused of filing false assets statement. The panel of 9 judges agreed to proceed with the case filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against Thaksin. The court scheduled the first hearing on July 29 at 1 pm.
The NACC filed the suit with the court, alleging that Thaksin failed to declare his shares held by his children. The NACC took the action after the Supreme Court's Criminal Divsiion for Holders of Political Office ruled to seize Thaksin's Bt40 billion of assets after convicting him of having abused his power to amass the assets.
The court ruled that the assets belonged to Thaksin but he hid them in the names of his children and other family members. As a result, the NACC charged that Thaksin falsified his financial statements upon taking and leaving office as the prime minister."

It's bad enough that the court in the assets seizure case held without any evidence that the Thaksin kids as adults really didn't own the stock they held for years in their own name. Now, the Corrupt Commission, which seems to have lost the airport scanners scandal in its files, and which can;t seem to bring itself to indict the former TAT Governor for taking bribes, wants to spend its time charging Thaksin for failing to disclose his assets, which were, of course, held by his children in their own name.
Anyone got a rope ?

Unfortunately, the old men running things in Bangkok don't seem to know when it's time to move on. They obviously don't want to investigate any corruption matters that would incriminate some of the same people who were Thaksin supporters but are now coalition members whose vote keeps Abhisit as prime minister. That's why the massive airport scanners case is going nowhere. Too many VIP's involved. So, they keep coming up with things against Thaksin that won't implicate anyone else: the land deal with his wife and the assets seizure case are prime examples. It's all designed to destroy Thaksin personally, while leaving the entire corrupt infrastructure in place. The country gets nothing in the process.
