With the end of the year coming, Abac, whatever they are, took a poll of 4,116 Thais in 17 provinces in all regions over Dec 13 and 21.

The three most positive news stories of the year for the vast majority of Thais were:

1. Celebrations for His Majesty the King's 60th year on the throne ( 96% )

2. Celebrations for His majesty's 79th birthday (94.7%).

3. Celebrations for Her Majesty the Queen's birthday (92.4%).

I guess when you got nothing to do but buy lottery tickets and watch the rice grow, you have a very different view of life.

I noticed in the article that the coup got 7.6 % of the vote as the most overwhelming event of 2006. Obviously, these people do like their birthday parties.

When I try to click on that link and look at the original source in the Bangkok Post, I get "The Page cannot be found."

Is that because the newspaper has deleted the original item or what happens to cause that ?

Anyone know or hazard a guess ?

I see the original URL is dated 23 Dec. It could be that the URL has since changed because it has been moved in the main news or the item was deleted in the online version for a more important item - not all the paper copy of the BKK Post appears on line.

The usual reason for a newspaper item URL not working is because it first appears as breaking news but is then moved to the main section of the paper - but I don't think that applies here as the URL given was not a 'breaking news' URL.
