"Army chief General Anupong Paochinda on Wednesday denied the allegation about secret detention centres for the red shirts at an Army base and the Border Patrol Police camp in Kanchanaburi."I can confirm there are no red shirts under secret detention," he said. Anupong said neither the military nor the BPP held the red shirts in Kanchanaburi.

Under the state of emergency, the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Special Investigation were the designated agencies to summon and detain the red shirts for emergency violations, he said, adding the detention must be publicly disclosed with visitation privileges ensured.

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation has threatened to initiate the legal proceedings for defamation if Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit continues to allege about the secret detention which it says was fabricated."

His response came after the US government has admitted the existence of the secret jail in Thailand where it subjected prisoners to interrogation techniques, which are claimed by the Washington Post and ABC News as illegal under the Geneva Conventions."
