"A general election may be called early if all concerned cooperate to make sure there is no more violence, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Wednesday. Asked if he still thought it was unnecessary for his government to complete its remaining term until late next year, Mr Abhisit said this was still his intention. He said an election should be called if it would help push the country forward sooner, and this was always in his mind."

Actually, I think it's Abhisit who needs someone to go around after him picking up the BS he leaves behind everywhere he goes. Here's the latest in "will he or won't he" allow the people to speak through elections:
"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has affirmed to United States Under-Secretary of State William Burns that a general election is possible from early next year if progress is made on reconciliation and reforms. Government spokesperson Panitan Wattanayagorn said the affirmation was made during a meeting between the prime minister and Mr Burns who visited Government House yesterday.
Mr Panitan said the US envoy expressed understanding about Thailand's political situation and agreed to support Mr Abhisit's reconciliation plan.
Speaking later to the media, the prime minister said his government wanted to see political stability and peace first. "From early next year, I will consider an appropriate time [for a House dissolution].
"Those who want to see a new election soon must help the government to make peace but those who want to force an election [with violence] will not be responded to," he said.
Mr Burns said America has been deeply saddened by the violence and deaths in Thailand over recent months."The US strongly supports the peaceful resolution of political differences and Thailand's democratic institutions."Genuine reconciliation and respecting human rights are the keys to bringing Thailand back to normal," said Mr Burns.
As for the state of emergency, he hopes the decree will be lifted as soon as possible.Thais will serve their own interests best via the peaceful reconciliation of their political differences, he said."
