On another forum I read about Judge Judy.
Its one of the favourites t.v. programme of some MODs on that board.
For me that's hard to understand, I have never seen such an unfair Judge as that Judge Judy is.
If that is the way Judges Judge in the States then I am happy that I am not from America.
Probably the same style moderating goes on on some gay thailand message boards.

I think Judge Judy would feel right at home on any Thai court these days.

I will try to explain the concept of Judge Judy to you because she is more of a concept than a real person. She is a real person named Judy Scheindlin and she was once a sitting judge in family court in New York on the verge of being dumped because of her demeanor and lack of professionalism. A very bright producer for Big Ticket Productions approached her with the idea of being an arbiter in the guise of being a judge.
Now you must understand the most important thing about her show. It is DAYTIME TV. So, who watches daytime TV? Retired people, hadicapped people, the unemployed, the unemployable, in other words, the disenfranchised of our society. So what do we do to keep these people from being so restless that they will cause social problems? We give them the same thing we have been giving them for centuries, Bread and Circuses. We give them John Wayne and Rambo and Dirty Harry, heroes who are misunderstood by and live their lives on the edge of society. We give them fantasy stories, soap operas, that go on ad infinitem with the sole purpose of distracting its audience emotionally from its isolation from prosperity (You may notice that soap operas are not sponsored by big ticket items like cars or expensive jewelry). They give you televangelists who try to persuade you to forget the emptiness of your life and to look forward to the happiness that will follow your death, and please remember to leave some money in your will to Christ’s mission on earth, yabsdibalabadan putchuyata (Trans. Send us what you have now… in tongues.). And we give them Judge Judy, a brash, two fisted broad who shoots straight from the lip and takes no crap from anybody. “She speaks our language. She is our kind of people.”
Truth is, judges in the U.S. court systems are almost never like Judge Judy, who, as I mentioned above, is NOT a judge. We have our share of assholes, but they seldom last long.
In JJ’s court, the litigants submit a statement and sign an agreement to abide by her decision. Every plaintiff and defendant will walk away with at least $100 . Before the cameras start rolling, she has decided the case. She scripts a few notes. If information comes up that is in conflict with her pre-arranged decision, she shoots it down. In one case, she got so outrageous that she made a custody decision which was beyond her authority. It was brought into a real court and her decision was thrown back at her along with some uncomplimentary remarks by the real judge.
A friend of mine, an attorney of 30 years, had a heart attack and took two months off. During that time, he studied JJ until his doctor made him stop it figuring it might lead him to another heart attack. He estimated that 70 to 80% of her decisions would have been overturned on appeal. That, of course, meant nothing to her devoted audience. That lawyer was just jealous of the 13 million she pulled in each year for being a fraud, they would argue.
I’m guessing, here, but from the way he writes of legal and especially constitutional matters, I suspect Hedda might have spent some time before the American Bar and can give you a more reliable appraisal of the American judicial system. There are also pages on line devoted to different opinions of Judge Judy.

Please don't put Judge Judy on same same level as John Wayne and Dirty Harry! She is a bitch and an xunt. But,, as you say, she is for the mindless and the masses.

Let's call a spade a spade, you're talking about GB (It's a good thing he is not of African descent or I would have to re-write that statement). GB is my best friend. When my back was against the wall, he was there for me, as were others in our group. When his back was to the wall, all of my resources and the resources of our mutual friends were his for the taking. Like me, he took the minimum he needed and returned it plus. Such is my regard for this man that, in the event of my death, and I am 10 years his senior, he alone will be trusted with any activity concerning my estate.
Now, does this mean I agree with him on everything? Philosophically we agree on very little. His political hero is the late George Carlin. Mine is the on-time Noam Chomsky. Similar philosophies but with vastly different approaches. However, I shudder to admit this but there have been times when I have been wrong. (I was married for 11 years which means for 12 years I was always wrong.) And, it is a comfort to have someone who thinks differently covering my back.
I mention this about GB, not with the intent of kidnapping this thread, but to clarify my response to your valid question.
Carlin's philosophy was that any concept that is mainstream is inherently suspect. You will see a lot of this in GB's posts. Carlin may or may not have truly believed that, but it was entertaining and it sold DVDs. JJ is a ballsy bitch, much like GB. Does it matter that she is not really a judge. It is not the person he likes, it is the persona. Direct, challenging, and feisty... like him. My feelings about her are more parallel with those of François. But, unlike her, GB is far less combattive in person and when he tangles with somebody, the individual can respond equally in an open forum.
I did not mean to imply in my previous post that JJ's audience was homogeneous. GB is neither disenfranchised nor even retired. There is actually another group who, like me, occasionally watch her because she makes us feel so superior.

tdperhs, you get the diplomatic award of the year for your posts.
There is another Judge Judy type who goes by the name of Dr. Laura. Another bitch from Hell, but popular.

I caught her show a couple of times. Found her as exciting as phlegm.
They don't put these people on because they are intelligent. They entertain. They tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to know. Take Dr. Fool... er, Phil...please.

Incredible! Just incredible! There are actually people on this board who concern themselves with what I like watching on television. Not only that, but they actually want explanations as to why I enjoy it. Is someone's life so absolutely empty that now he concerns himself with what amuses me on television? Don't you realize how nuts you make yourself sound? Would you like to know what other programs I watch? How about the list of the most recent books I've read. "Firecracker up a Cat's Asshole" was certainly a favorite.
Now there are people who have nothing better to do with their time than trying to figure out why I like watching Judge Judy. For what possible reason would you even care? What's the matter, don't you also want to know why I like Captain Kangaroo? Very sorry, but you'll have to lose sleep over it. I'll help you a little bit, though. I greatly enjoy thinking about the outcome if Judge Judy ever gets her hands on certain people who are regular posters here.
If you want to spend time figuring out something, try figuring out why you are so hopelessly obsessed with every imaginable aspect of me. What do you want next, a stool sample?

Be careful, he might eat your corpse if he's hungry...hehehe...just kidding!
Seriously, is that wise? G.B. doesn't take care of himself - he eats and smokes too much...you will probably outlive him.
Anyway, welcome back G.B.!

hehehe...too much shit from him..he shouldn't be playing with cat's assholes
Why not? It would sure beat playing with yours.
Ok, no need to 'welcome' me back. I'm only passing through. I might post again some time if I can ever stop laughing about the fact that some idiots here are so obsessed, they actually care about what I watch on television. Even I never expected the stupidity found on this board to go that far.
