Thailand does not have a mutual medical care agreement with the US. Has anyone seen anything that might indicate the possibility that US citizens living abroad would be able to enroll in the new U.S. healthcare plan and get treatment in the country they have chosen to live in.
More specifically, I believe Swedes living in Thailand are completely covered for treatment in Thailand. I am wondering if there is a probability Americans will have the same privileges.

Do not hold your breath for this to ever happen! wacko.gif

If anything, there will be continuing withdrawal of health care
services outside the USA...(so called cost-savings measure)
as recently seen by Expat Teacher Retirees from California & Tennessee...
from state and or district/county school retirement systems...
and I believe others will follow...
who have changed... as of January 1, 2010
their medical benefits to match those of Medicare -
which, for them, means NO more worldwide care for Expat Retirees living OUTSIDE the USA...
unless during the first 60 days outside USA for "emergency services" only as approved by Medicare.
